Love One Another Capital Campaign 2021

Christ King, Wauwatosa

Our Parish Roots

Christ King Catholic Parish was founded in 1939 under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Huepper, following an increasing number of people moving from the City of Milwaukee into the western suburbs. A variety of building campaigns took place to purchase the land, resulting in the parish owning an entire city block.

Christ King School opened in its new building in September 1940, with a major addition constructed to the school in 1950. In 1953, parishioners established a fund to construct the current church. Construction took almost three years to complete, and on December 16, 1956, the parish was formally dedicated and blessed by Archbishop Albert G. Meyer.

The parish has grown in phases through moments of exceptional generosity. We are at another one of those moments. For nearly 84 years, Christ King has stood as a beacon of light in the Milwaukee area, forming and sending disciples of Jesus Christ from the Eucharist into the world. We welcome all to worship with us.

Our Share

Through much prayer, planning and conversation, we have identified our greatest needs and initiatives to strengthen our mission and vision for years to come. Our share of the funds raised will be used for debt retirement, capital improvements to our parish buildings and additions to our school endowment fund.

  DEBT RETIREMENT - $613,000

We will enhance Christ King’s financial health through this campaign to retire the debt from renovating the parish buildings from the 2000s. While retiring this debt was the “transformation” goal of our 2018 capital appeal, this campaign will complete that goal, allowing our parish to maintain a stronger financial position and enable us to focus our resources on other ministries within our parish and school. Completing these payments will free up ~$120,000 per year from the stewardship debt payments.

  CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS - $200,000

In order to continue to be good stewards of our house of worship, we will use the money raised from the campaign for several capital improvement projects. The doors to our beloved church, which are the gateway to the Mass, are in poor condition and many are nonfunctional, posing not only aesthetic barriers but also safety issues. Due to the uniqueness of the doors, they will need to be custom-made, which will carry a large price tag. On the interior, the North Hall Kitchen has almost no equipment that is functional or safe to use. Funds will go towards creating a proper warming kitchen where food can be prepared for parish events and potential for hot school lunches.

  SCHOOL ENDOWMENT FUND - $293,358

Faith formation and outreach is at the core of our Catholic faith, and our parish would like to expand our support for our parish school families with financial aid needs. Currently, interest from the current school endowment is the only source of funding, and requests are starting to exceed the interest available. Additional funds will add long- term stability to our parish school, ensuring Catholic education is available to all families.
