St. Joseph Catholic Church, Big Bend

Our Parish Roots

St. Joseph Catholic Church was one of the oldest parishes in Waukesha County. First established in 1872 but met with challenges. In 1924, the congregation grew and merged with other churches into a new church at Big Bend. The church celebrated a cornerstone laying in 1924.

In 1953, St. Joseph Parish moved to our current home in Big Bend. This church held 400 parishioners, including a school, and was dedicated in August of 1954. Nuns taught and held position of Principal for several years. In the 1970’s, additional classrooms were added to educate Kindergarten – grade 8.

The church building was quickly being outgrown, and in May of 1997 plans for construction on a new church began to seat 800 and allowed expansion of the school. Our beautiful new church was dedicated in October of 1999, and included a Day Chapel, Gathering Area, and Parish Hall. St. Joseph Catholic Faith Community, a community striving together for heaven, plans a Centennial Celebration sometime in 2024.

  Worship Space - $115,000

It is important to address maintenance needs for our worship space to continue growing our faith, mission, and ministry. With these funds we will upgrade the church lighting and add two statues in the church (St. Joseph and Our Blessed Mother) and add a Blessed Mother statue to the former Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

  Buildings and Grounds - $346,434

In addition to improving the worship space, we will replace the church roofs, replace the boilers, and install security cameras. We would like to reserve any additional funds for future building and ground maintenance that may be needed.

  Formation and Ministry - $40,000

We are installing a video projection system and speakers in the Parish Hall to use for evangelization opportunities and events. More funds will be used to enhance our Adult Faith Formation and Evangelization programs.
