Love One Another Capital Campaign 2021

St. Gregory the Great, Milwaukee

Our Parish Roots

In 1955 Archbishop Albert Gregory Meyer announced the formation of a new parish on Milwaukee’s fast-growing southwest side. Fr. Mark Lyons was chosen as the first pastor of this community which was named St. Gregory the Great.

The first Mass was celebrated in the new church on April 18, 1957, and charter members ventured into the surrounding neighborhood to invite families to join the new parish community. In 1958 the Ursuline sisters arrived at St. Greg’s. Classes were taught in the gymnasium until 1961when the new school building was completed.

The parish continues to honor those charter members for their tireless efforts in building up the welcoming parish and school community that remains a strong and vibrant presence on the corner of 60th and Oklahoma.

Our Share

Through much prayer, planning, and conversation, we have identified our greatest needs and initiatives to strengthen our mission and vision for years to come. Our share of the funds raised will be used to complete renovations, pursue outreach and evangelization efforts, and support our sister parish in the Dominican Republic.

  CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS - $395,340

School Window Replacement: Keeping a safe and functional environment to worship and learn requires that we prioritize the maintenance of our campus. Our school building’s 61-year-old windows are falling out of their frames and freezing from the inside during colder months. Through this campaign, we will replace the school windows to ensure the comfort and safety of our students.

Worship Space Improvements: Since the relocation of our altar in 1978, we have not made any major improvements to our worship space. We will honor our faith and the mission of Saint Gregory the Great by enhancing our worship space with commissioned murals and painted icons.

  OUTREACH & EVANGELIZATION - $43,926

Sister Parish Support: In keeping with our vision of “greatness through service,” we stand in solidarity with our sister parish, Our Lady of the Highest Grace, in the Dominican Republic. We will strengthen our partnership in prayer by dedicating a portion of our campaign funds to support their parish needs.

Evangelization Efforts: This is an exciting time for St. Gregory the Great Parish. We stand at the center of a rapidly growing and changing neighborhood. With many families with children ages 0-5 in our area, we recognize our potential to refocus and enhance our outreach efforts to expand our faith community. We will dedicate campaign funds to promote the benefits of our vibrant parish and school community and to understand how to better serve our neighbors.
