Our Parish Roots

St. Augustine Parish dates back to 1887, when it became the only German speaking parish in Bay View, right as Bay View became a part of Milwaukee. The church was originally located on the second floor of the school, but in April of 1908, construction began on the church we know today.

The church was dedicated on Thanksgiving Day of 1908 with Archbishop Messmer, Bishop Chalbahl of LaCrosse, Bishop Fox of Green Bay, Monsignor Keogh, and 40 other priests in attendance. The church has made many improvements and changes along the way, but has continued to serve the Bay View community in the same way it has since its founding.

Over the past 130 years, St. Augustine as seen over 8,600 Baptisms, 5,700 confirmations, 2,800 marriages and 3,000 funerals. St. Augustine also serves in new ways- our Fish Fries and Oktoberfest have become the talk of the city!

Our Share

Through much prayer, planning and conversation, we have identified our greatest needs and initiatives to strengthen our mission and vision for years to come. Our share of the funds raised will be used to replace the parish roof and tuckpoint the exterior.
